Denver Broncos sign former Illini Alex Palczewski as undrafted free agent

Former Illinois offensive lineman Alex Palczewski has signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos shortly following the 2023 NFL draft.

The career accomplishments are vast for Palczewski, who was a team captain for Illinois in 2022 and an All-American in the Sporting News rankings. The Mount Prospect native was also on the Associated Press’ All-American third team.

According to Pro Football Focus, Palczewski was the No. 10 tackle in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten. Additionally, the six-year veteran is the all-time Big Ten leader in career starts, totaling 65 throughout his Illinois career which is also tied for the most career starts in FBS history.

Palczewski did not individually allow a single sack during the 2022 season for an Illini offense that featured one of the top rushing attacks in the nation. Under the protection of Palczewski and the rest of Illinois’ front seven, quarterback Tommy DeVito had the fourth highest completion percentage in the nation and was only sacked 27 times in 13 games.

Bringing versatility to the table, Palczewski can play all over the line but likely fits best as a tackle on the right side, as he played there for most of his Illinois career.
