Former Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito signs with home state New York Giants
April 29, 2023
Former Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito was signed undrafted by the New York Giants following the 2023 NFL draft. DeVito grew up about 75 miles from MetLife Stadium, giving him an opportunity to play for one of his home state teams.
The graduate transfer from Syracuse started 13 games for the Illini. His 69.6% completion percentage set a program record and ranked him fourth in the nation in the same category.
The Cedar Grove, New Jersey native was an All-Big Ten honorable mention as well. DeVito, according to Pro Football Focus, was the second-highest graded quarterback in the Big Ten behind CJ Stroud and No. 23 in the nation.
The Illini went 8-5 in his first and only season with the team. DeVito helped lead Illinois to its first bowl game since 2019.
The 24-year-old will likely not see much playing time, but could set himself up to be a backup quarterback for the Giants should he make the 53-man roster.
