By Adam Rosen, Summer Editor

The Illini added a 14th player to their recruiting class for 2024. Another Florida defensive back has elected to play football in Champaign next season. Three-star safety Chase Green announced his decision to become an Illini via his Twitter.

According to 247Sports, Green was the No. 111 safety in the recruiting class. The 2024 recruit had offers from multiple programs, including a couple of of Florida schools.

Green ultimately chose Illinois, joining fellow Floridians Vernon Woodward and Amar Reynolds in the recruiting class.

The 6-foot-tall safety’s statistics demonstrate his ability to be a ballhawk, registering 68 tackles and four interceptions during his junior season. Green is the No. 144 ranked recruit in the state of Florida, where the Illini have found past success in the secondary, namely with Seattle Seahawks corner and recently drafted Illini Devon Witherspoon.

Green’s recruitment was heavily pursued by defensive coordinator Aaron Henry, who was an essential part of an elite Illinois secondary last season and could project as a free safety when the Largo native arrives on campus next year.
