Shooting guard Brandon Lee committed to Illinois Wednesday evening, he announced via On3Recruits. The four-star out of Hillside, New Jersey, is the second addition to the 2025 Illini class, joining fellow four-star shooting guard Keaton Wagler.
The 6-foot-3 guard is the No. 98 recruit according to 247Sports and pledges to the Illini after a weekend visit to Champaign. His other top schools were Rutgers and Mississippi State, but assistant coach Orlando Antigua managed to reel him in quickly.
“I chose Illinois because I felt that they had the necessary resources for me to continue to grow as a basketball player,” Lee told On3. “But most importantly, as a student and person overall.”
While both 2025 Illini commits are listed as shooting guards, they have different playstyles. Lee is a smaller guard who can score at all three levels. His free-throw shooting and ability to get to the rim are valuable for a smaller guard and are reminiscent of the Terrence Shannon Jr. playstyle that Illini fans grew to love.
Both Lee and Wagler will join the Illini next fall, solidifying recruitment at the guard position. Head coach Brad Underwood has relied heavily on the transfer portal recently, so bringing in more than two high school backcourt players is unlikely.
