Illinois women’s golf is set to conclude its lackluster fall season at the Landfall Tradition this weekend.
This prestigious tournament, hosted by the University of North Carolina Wilmington, will be held at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The Illini recently finished 11th at the Illini Women’s Invitational held at Medinah. After another disappointing finish, they are looking to bounce back on the links in Wilmington.
The Country Club of Landfall provides a scenic layout and championship-level design. It features 45 holes established by golf legends Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus. This course has hosted significant events, including the NCAA Division I Championships in 1995 and 2010.
The Landfall Tradition has been an annual event since 2002. The tournament format spans three days, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday. The final round on Sunday will begin with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. CT, with an awards ceremony to follow.

Illinois will face tough competition in this tournament. The 18-team field includes powerhouses such as Alabama, Duke, Florida State and Notre Dame. Other notable programs include Michigan State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. This competitive atmosphere will provide Illinois with an opportunity to gain some momentum heading into the break before the spring season.
The Illini lineup features a very seasoned group. Senior Lexanne Halama, followed by sophomore Yurang Li, juniors Victoria Zheng and Brielle Mapanao and freshman Brielle Burns round out the Illini lineup. This lineup aims to improve upon last year’s performance, where Illinois finished 10th in the tournament. The team also placed eighth in 2021 and third in 2019, proving their potential for a strong showing.
The Country Club of Landfall will play to a par 72 and stretch 6,178 yards. Its challenging layout will test the golfers’ skills, especially on fast greens and well-placed bunkers. As the Illini prepare for this tournament, their focus will be on consistent play and strategic course management.
After this event, the Illini will return to action in February. This begins with the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational at Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida, starting on Feb. 16. For now, all eyes are on the Landfall Tradition as the Illini aim to secure a strong finish before the winter break.
