Illinois women’s basketball head coach Shauna Green just signed a contract extension through 2030, according to Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman. This contract will extend Green’s stay for an additional two years, keeping the head coach a part of the program through the 2029-30 season. Green can hit four additional one-year extensions if specific performance benchmarks are achieved.
Green has done well with the program, leading the team to a 19-15 season just last year. Looking at the larger picture, Green has an impressive 41-25 record in addition to a respectable 19-17 record in Big Ten games.
Green is the first coach in Illinois women’s basketball history with winning seasons in their first two years. That success is why she is now here to stay.
“(Green’s) ability to unify the locker room and create a winning culture has been evident throughout her career,” Whitman said. “The program’s rapid ascent, marked by an NCAA Tournament appearance and the inaugural WBIT title during her first two years, has been accompanied by record crowds and increased fan enthusiasm throughout our community.”
The extension comes just two weeks before their home opener, when they host the Florida State Seminoles on Thursday, Nov. 7.
