Grant Beerman, four-star linebacker from Ohio, flipped his commitment from Purdue to No. 22 Illinois. Beerman, who was committed to the Boilermakers since July, flipped to the Illini on Thanksgiving day.
The 6-foot-4 linebacker was a First Team All-Conference selection in his junior year. He racked up 79 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles. Beerman is ranked in the top 100 in his position in the 2025 class.
Injuries have plagued the Illini linebacker room this season. At the start of November, junior linebacker Dylan Rosiek was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a fractured leg. As a result, the Illini have relied on backup linebackers senior Ryan Meed and sophomore James Kreutz. Getting talented linebacker depth will be important for next season.
Illinois has flipped multiple players this season as it has continued to win games. Tywan Cox and JJ Hirdes are just two who recently decommitted from other schools and joined the Illini.
Illinois, who will try to finish the season with nine wins on Saturday, has had a surprisingly good season. With very few seniors on the roster, the Illini will try to run it back next season. Adding more young talent to the current roster will give them an even better chance at another winning season next year.
