Katie Hultin was announced as the new head coach for Illinois soccer on Tuesday afternoon. Athletic Director Josh Whitman announced the five-year deal with the former Division II coach.
The new coach made her rounds in the soccer world, playing at Washington State for four years. As a coach, Hultin has also spent time with Michigan, Oregon, Illinois, Seattle and the United States women’s national soccer team. She had a defensive-minded role with these programs before turning to a head coaching position in 2021.
Hultin arrives in Champaign from Grand Valley State, where she spent the last three years.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Katie Hultin as the fourth head coach of Fighting Illini soccer,” Whitman said. “She comes to us after three successful seasons leading one of the nation’s most tradition-rich NCAA Division II programs, where she amassed a remarkable regular and postseason record.”
Her Lakers won two NCAA Regional titles in three seasons and added a conference regular season and tournament title as well . After a mediocre 8-8-2 season, Illinois now has its coach of the future as they look to return to the NCAA tournament.
