Freshman offensive lineman Andrew Dennis has put himself in the transfer portal after being with the Illini for just a few short months. Per 247sports, Dennis went through the motions of spring football with the Illini but is now cutting his time here short after enrolling in January.
Out of high school, Dennis was a four-star recruit, making him Illinois’ highest recruit from the 2024 class. According to 247sports, his main reason for entering the transfer portal was to allow him to play closer to home in Michigan.
Dennis originally committed to Michigan State for football around a year ago but announced his decision to attend Illinois this past November. Standing at 6-foot-5 inches and 290 pounds, his size and high status as a 2024 recruit will likely bring him offers from numerous universities.
His departure from Illinois will likely lead head coach Bret Bielema to search for even bigger and stronger athletes in the transfer portal. The team will use all the help they can get as they prepare to kick off their season four months from now.
