No. 8 Illinois took its talents to the Moraine Intercollegiate this week. Riding high off a win at the Windon Memorial Classic, it kept the momentum going, battling its way to second place overall.
The Illini shot 17 under par over the course of the two-day outing. Their second round, where the Illini posted a 274 (-10), proved to be their best performance. That round was key in the silver-winning performance, as Illinois barely eked out third-place Missouri by one stroke.
All hands on deck
Freshman Dujuan Snyman, competing as an individual, had a breakout performance. The freshman finished the meet with a score of 206 (-7). Snyman registered five birdies in round two en route to tallying a 66 (-5).
Sophomore Freddie Turnell added to Illinois’ success with another solid outing. The sophomore shot a 207 (-6), which was a carbon copy of his last outing, where he also shot six under. Turnell’s solid play came at the hands of consistent play. Turnell got better as he played, posting rounds of 70, 69 and 68.

Senior Ryan Voois notched another great score. Even with a tough third round, in which he shot 2 over par, Voois still put up great numbers overall. He shot a 209 (-4), which tied him for 13th overall.
Illinois’ stellar performances across the board led it to its second-place finish. Only Xavier, who shot a season-best 832 (-20), had a better meet.
The Illini have yet to fall below fourth place in all three of their outings this fall and have maintained a steady style of play.
Up next
The Illini will head down south to Saucier, Mississippi, next weekend to compete in the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational. This will be the team’s last outing of the fall before the spring season. Illinois will look to finish strong to cap off an incredible fall run.
