Marcus Domask talks to a teammate at a stoppage in play during the Chicago Bulls loss to the Golden State Warriors on July 14 at the 2024 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

The Chicago Bulls are two games into the 2024 NBA Summer League, and Marcus Domask has spent a total of 17 minutes on the court, scoring two points, which came in the Bulls’ opening game on Saturday. Domask and the Bulls played their second game on Sunday night against the Golden State Warriors, but this time, the former Illini went scoreless in 10 minutes of action (0-2 from the field).

Offensively, Domask’s role has changed in Las Vegas, as he hasn’t had the ball in his hands nearly as much as he did at Illinois, where he averaged 12.6 field goal attempts per game.

“Eventually I just got to get more comfortable in my role,” said Domask after the Bulls’ first game on Saturday.

Bulls Summer League head coach Billy Donovan III, who was recently promoted to be the head coach of Chicago’s G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, had praise for Domask after the team’s second game on Sunday night, despite him not playing much in Summer League so far.

“It’s Summer League, we’ve got five games, so rotations are obviously going to change, but his attitude has been great. Another guy that loves asking questions, loves watching film,” said Donovan. “He’s a great kid and a great worker, he’s got a great IQ.”

Outside of Domask’s change in scoring output, one thing that hasn’t changed is his ability to do the little things that impact winning, such as offensive rebounding. Domask averaged 1.1 offensive rebounds per game at Illinois last year, and in both of the Bulls’ Summer League games, Domask has secured an offensive rebound, even in limited minutes. He crashes into the basket and uses his size to overtake smaller guards. Donovan recognized this as a major strength of Domask’s game that could help him become a contributor on offense, even without being the focal point.

“The one thing with Marcus is that he knows how to play. As far as moving off the ball, cutting is a big thing with him,” said Donovan. “He averaged over one offensive rebound a game, which matters, especially at Illinois. So I think his ability to slash, turn those slashes into offensive rebounds is gonna help our team overall.”

Domask’s next opportunity to take the court for Chicago will come at 5:30 CT on Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons.
