Only a few days after his official visit to Champaign, Keaton Wagler announced on Wednesday evening that he would commit to Illinois. Wagler, a 6-foot-6 combo guard, gives head coach Brad Underwood and his staff their first commit in the class of 2025 after Jeremiah Fears decommitted over the summer.
Wagler is from Shawnee, Kansas, and attends Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. As a junior last season, Wagler averaged 12.5 points, six rebounds and three assists while shooting 50% from three. He led his team to an undefeated 25-0 record and the school’s first-ever state championship. Wagler’s impressive three-point shooting, ability to facilitate, competency on the defensive end and good size for a guard will make him a versatile piece for the Illini.
Assistant coach Tyler Underwood was the lead recruiter for Wagler, who secured an offer from the Illini on Aug. 22. Wagler also received offers from Minnesota, Murray State, Colorado State and Southern Illinois.
