Illinois redshirt freshman Jason Jakstys has a blood clot in his left shoulder and will see a doctor next week, he told The Daily Illini Saturday afternoon. Jakstys was listed as out ahead of No. 11 Illinois’ matchup with No. 4 Purdue at Mackey Arena. He is unsure how long he will be sidelined.
The 6-foot-10 big man sat out last year as a redshirt before he made his Illini debut this season. Jakstys has played sparingly off the bench, only seeing action in nine contests. He is averaging 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 5.3 minutes per game.
Jakstys is behind freshman forward David Mirković and junior centers Zvonimir and Tomislav Ivišić in the front court hierarchy and has solely been used as a depth piece. His loss should not cause any major problems for the Illini on the court unless their big men get into foul trouble or have to sit out with injuries.
