Senior Kenta Miyoshi, Illinois’ most decorated talent, will try to continue to build his resume in November. Illinois announced Sunday that Miyoshi has officially qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships in Orlando, Florida.
After five wins at the ITA All-American Championship, the Japanese native officially secured his spot in Orlando. His first win was a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory against Princeton freshman Fnu Nidunjianzan. He kept up the momentum by beating Ohio State graduate student Loren Byers 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
After a loss in the third round, Miyoshi bounced back in the consolation bracket with back-to-back victories. He defeated Princeton sophomore Paul Inchauspe 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, then beat Yale senior Vignesh Gogineni 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Miyoshi booked his ticket to the NCAA Championship after Kentucky junior Jack Loutit retired due to injury in his final match.
Miyoshi is coming off a junior campaign in which he was named the 2025 Big Ten Player of the Year while also claiming a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection. He looks to add a national title to his list of accomplishments during his senior season.
This is Miyoshi’s second-straight trip to the NCAA Singles Championship. Last season, he was the lone Illinois representative at the event and advanced to the round of 16. This year’s event kicks off on Nov. 18.
