Illinois announced the signing of guard Aaliyah Guyton on Saturday. The Peoria native played as a freshman at Iowa but entered the transfer portal after the season. She is the first transfer signed by the Illini in this offseason.
“I chose Illinois because of the strong sense of community, the incredible growth opportunities, and the chance to be part of something meaningful alongside an amazing team and staff,” said Guyton.
The 5-foot-7 guard averaged 4.7 points per game in her freshman year, across 29 games. She was a solid shooter, averaging 37.5% from the floor and 37.3% from beyond the arc.
Guyton was a four-star prospect from Peoria High School and the No. 1 prospect in Illinois. She was pursued by the Illini but ultimately chose the Hawkeyes. After just one season in black and gold, however, she will then don the orange and blue.
With so many guards leaving Illinois, Guyton will likely step into the point guard role right away. Her experience will help strengthen a young Illinois core next season.

“Aaliyah brings Big Ten experience to us and the ability to lead our team at the point guard position,” said head coach Shauna Green in a statement by the team. “She can score at all three levels, and she is an elite defender, which is critical in our system.”
