Three Illinois track & field athletes are national champions after competing in the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Tournament in Eugene, Oreg.
Rose Yeboah won the women’s high jump title with a height of 1.97 meters, which is both an NCAA outdoor and Illinois record. Evan Correll won the men’s wheelchair 100-meter race with a time of 14.33 seconds, and Hannah Dederick won the women’s wheelchair 100-meter race, finishing in 16.15 seconds.
In the women’s triple jump, Darja Sopova finished in second place, leaping 14.01 meters and becoming the highest Illini finisher in history for the event. Hoda Elshorbagy took second place in the women’s wheelchair 100-meter race with a time of 17.60 seconds.
Jason Robinson and Phillip Croft took second and third place in the men’s wheelchair 100-meter race, finishing in 15.37 seconds and 15.58 seconds respectively.
Yeboah will compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, representing her home country of Ghana. Dederick is set to compete in the 2024 Paralympic Games for Team USA, also taking place in Paris later this summer.
