Illinois women’s basketball senior center Jenna Smith was selected by Washington Mystics in the second round of the WNBA Draft Thursday afternoon. The Bloomington, Minnesota, native was the 14th player selected overall and the first player from the Big Ten to be drafted.
Smith finished her Illini career as the program’s all time leading scorer and was a three time first team all-Big Ten selection, among many other accolades. She is the first Illini women’s basketball player to be drafted since Angelina Williams in 2005.
Fellow senior Lacey Simpson is among those players who may be selected in the later rounds of the draft today.
