Former Illinois basketball player D.J. Williams transfers to GWU

Former Illinois basketball player D.J. Williams transferred to George Washington University on Wednesday afternoon.

The 6-foot-7 guard appeared in 17 games and averaged a total of 2.3 points per game in his 2017 season with the Illini. He had a career-high nine points in last season’s game against McKendree University and tied his career-high five rebounds in the team’s victory over Central Michigan on December 10.

Williams asked for a release from the University in early May.

After a freshman season where Williams averaged 11 minutes per game, he experienced a decline in his time on the court, only averaging 8.8 minutes per game. In the 2017 season, Williams also took a brief leave of absence due to, what the team described as, “personal reasons.”

The remaining scholarship junior’s on the Illinois Basketball team include Leron Black, Aaron Jordan and Michael Finke.
