I was thrilled to see the editorial piece about the now infamous ACORN. I was shocked when the Daily Illini ignored the topic for over a week. I still question why an article from the Associated Press was not included when the scandal was first uncovered, but better late than never.
One thing the editorial did fail to mention was ACORN’s left leaning nature and its instrumental part in aiding the Obama campaign. As would be expected, President Obama has stated an investigation into ACORN is needed, but in the same breath he states it’s not a national priority. I find this asinine considering when one of his associates was arrested for breaking into his own house, Obama injected himself into the situation.
The ACORN situation is far more important, yet is being given little priority by the administration. I would like to think that this has nothing to do with the fact that Obama has benefited significantly from ACORN’s activities.
However, I have my doubts considering the recent missile shield situation. For those who don’t know, President Obama scrapped the long-planned defensive missile shield which was to be established in Eastern Europe. Coincidentally, Russia, a long time opponent of the shield, announced hours later it would meet with General Electric the next day. The objective of the meeting was to expand GE business in the Russian markets. In yet another coincidence, General Electric affiliated groups have contributed very nearly 500,000 dollars to the Obama campaign.
