In regards to Colleen Lindsay’s article on Monday titled, “Logic problems abound with Obama’s new plan on illegal immigration”, I must admit it seems less than a logical reduction of his plan and more of a whining rant by a conservative who doesn’t like the idea of legitimizing illegal immigrants. While I agree with the initial premise, that breaking the law should not be rewarded, making illegal immigrants citizens isn’t about rewarding bad behavior. It is even debatable whether or not sneaking into the United States even constitutes bad behavior, despite being illegal. As you pointed out, “[Our] ancestors had to jump through hoops”, and similarly so do the illegal immigrants of today, except instead of jumping through the normal hoops of registration they ALSO must risk their lives to come be a part of our nation. Under that logic, shouldn’t they be even MORE entitled to citizenship? It seems what you’re really worried about is increasing taxes, yet you are ignorant of how much our economy is already bloated by cheap illegal labor. Would you rather pay more taxes or spend more money on goods and services? Either way, we’re going to have to recognize legitimate work and legitimate pay sometime, and were you in the same position as the people you lambast, I think you’d agree.
