One more victory and the Illinois swimming and diving team will make history.
If the undefeated Illini (7-0) top at least one of their three opponents in this weekend’s Big Ten Quad Meet make in West Lafayette, Ind., they will match the program’s highest win total since the 1999-00 season.
If Illinois is able to sweep all three of its opponents — No. 13 Minnesota, No. 16 Wisconsin and No. 20 Purdue — it will have its first 10-win season since 1996-97.
The Illini will look to ride momentum gained from a big win — the Illini took 10 of 16 events — against Big Ten-rival Iowa on Jan. 15 heading into what will be their final dual meet of the season.
“It’s going to be a great weekend of competition,” Illinois head coach Sue Novitsky said in a press release. “We’re going against three nationally ranked teams, so we’ll have the chance to compete against some of the best swimmers in the conference.”

The Illini are having one of their best seasons since they started 7-0 in the 1997-98 season, having defeated Big Ten teams such as Michigan State, Iowa and Ohio State.
Illinois faces three ranked opponents this weekend, something it has recognized as a challenge, but Novitsky said all they need is to stay confident.
“As a team, we realize that we can get the job done, even if we might have some self-doubt,” Novitsky said. “We can continue to work together, stay focused and realize that good things will come.”
