_Editor’s note: In the original version of this article, the law enacted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency was referred to as a resolution instead of a law. The previous version also mentioned that there were many other locations that accept electronics for recycle or use. The use of “many” is not accurate. The Daily Illini regrets the error.

University students and citizens of Champaign-Urbana will have the chance to finally put their outdated electronics to a good use.
The Countywide Electronics Recycling Collection is a recycling program aimed at recycling or refurbishing electronics that are no longer used.
Courtney Rushforth, recycling coordinator for the city of Urbana, said the program will keep electronics and the dangerous materials in them out of landfills.

Rushforth added that due to a new law enacted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, electronic items may no longer be disposed of in landfills, starting in January 2012, and the program helps to support the law.
The collection will be accepting most electronics, including television, computers, printers, VCRs, DVDs, cell phone and video game consoles.
Held rain or shine, the event offers free residential drop-off for the acceptable items.
Rushforth said in addition to the collection, local retailers and other locations accept electronics for recycle or reuse, including Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill and Best Buy.
The collection will take place at 3202 North Apollo Drive in Champaign, from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 29.
