Police finally have the man responsible for 2008 hit and run that took the life of University of Illinois student Mellissa Lech.
David McCarthy, 27 of Naperville, confessed to the Lech family and was later apprehended by police.
On August 6, 2008, Melissa Lech, who was only 20 years old at the time, was hit in her hometown of Joliet. Lech had been at a baseball game the night before and was hit on her way home.
According to reports, McCarthy went to Mellissa’s sister, Michelle’s home to confess and left soon afterwards. Michelle called authorities soon after with the license plate number with which he was located and arrested by local police.
Authorities said when police picked up McCarthy at his home he told them his conscience was clear after having talked to the family.
