A retired interpreter for the United Nations, Lynn Visson, will be giving a lecture on Thursday about her life as a UN interpreter and trends in interpreter training. Visson now freelances for the UN and trains new interpreters. She has taught Russian language and literature at Columbia University, Monterey Institute of International Studies, Moscow University and other prestigious institutions.

“(The lecture will) offer a fascinating, behind the scenes glimpse at the life of a UN interpreter,” said Elizabeth Lowe, associate professor and director at the Center for Translation Studies. While the event is geared toward language and translation students, but will also be of interest to majors in international relations, global studies and political science, according to Lowe. It will also provide students with information on how to be successful in interpretation and related fields.

The Center for Translation Studies will sponsor this event, which will take place in the Lucy Ellis Lounge of the Foreign Language Building. Lynn Visson’s lecture will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
