Scammers claiming to be from First Busey Corporation have recently been targeting residents of central Illinois. These residents have been reached through phone calls asking for personal information. Both customers and non-customers of Busey have been targeted by these vishing attempts.

Victims of this scam have been called and told that their debit card needs to be reactivated or that there is a billing issue with their card. These calls began Tuesday and have been continuing today as well.

Heidi Ponder, Vice President and Fraud Officer for Busey, stated in a press release that “Busey and other financial institutions will never call a customer regarding card activation or requesting personal information.”
