Fads by definition are trends that become extremely popular in a short period of time and fizzle out just as quickly. As a consumer-based society, we pay close attention to what is “in” and things that are “out.”
Although fads last for a brief amount of time, they leave a lasting imprint on pop culture. Who could forget the days when everyone donned LiveStrong bands, jammed out to Fall Out Boy songs and sported horrendous Crocs? While fads take over the mainstream media and pop culture by storm, they quickly dissipate as everyone starts looking for the next “big thing.”
“Gangnam Style” is the new “Call Me Maybe,” 50 Shades of Gray is the new Twilight, but before we know it, these current fads will be replaced by something even newer and fresher.
