Update (5:10 p.m.): Police have located a suspect in the shooting of the 31-year-old victim.
A male passenger in the woman’s van had shot her multiple times before the vehicle crashed. He then fled the scene on foot.
The suspect was located in the basement of his home in the 1000 block of West Church Street. He was alert and conscious when police made contact with him despite sustaining wounds that were believed to be self-inflicted.
After unsuccessful attempts to gain the suspect’s cooperation, the Champaign Police Department requested the assistance of the University Police Department in using a taser in gain compliance from the suspect.
The suspect was temporarily incapacitated and was transported to a local hospital after being taken into custody for medical treatment. He has not been arrested.

Champaign Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday night near the 900 block of West Church Street.
Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 9:17 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman who crashed her van into a home after being shot, according to a press release.
The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived and has not been yet located.
The victim knew the man who shot her and was alert and conscious when transported to Carle Hospital.
