The Champaign City Council voted to appoint Dorothy David as city manager at their meeting Tuesday.
David, who is currently assistant city manager, will replace current city manager Steve Carter after he retires in March. According to a press release, David is the first city manager to be appointed by the council in 28 years.
“I am grateful to the Mayor and City Council for their confidence in my ability to lead the City organization,” David said. “Champaign is my home; I love this community.
David began working with the City of Champaign in 1994 as Neighborhood Services Director and became assistant city manager in 2007.
Her term as city manager will begin March 30. David’s salary will be $173,000 per year.
