Man, is Tina on a roll or what?
My girl Tina Fey — that’s right we are BFF’s so I’m allowed to call her my girl — took a surprising win at the Screen Actor Guild Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Not that she isn’t great, but I’m half-wondering if the people who selected her just wanted to see her get up and make an acceptance speech, because it was the best of the night. She thanked the right people, she made the people laugh, and of course, she gave a shout-out to her girl (because they are actually best friends) Amy Poehler.
With “30 Rock” ending this week, Fey made a crack, asking everyone to “just tape ‘Big Bang Theory’ for once!” It only seemed appropriate that both Fey and Alec Baldwin won the top prize in the comedy section, even if the show didn’t (instead it was once again “Modern Family”). But thank you Jesse Tyler Ferguson for telling both the “30 Rock” and “The Office” cast they are welcomed on the show once they are done with their own.
Comedy actors unite! Side note, look for my love letter to “30 Rock” in my next week’s blog post.
In one very surprising TV win, “Downton Abbey” grabbed the award for Best Drama Series from the hot “Homeland,” which has won almost every category since it premiered. And as an avid fan of both shows, I was happy to see Mrs. Hughes and her fellow British cast members that were there look utterly shocked that they won.

Though the TV awards were fun for me, the real question of tonight was who might win the Oscar for the four major acting categories.
Unsurprisingly Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables”) and Tommy Lee Jones (“Lincoln”) won for the supporting categories, and I’m going to say it here I think they are locks for Oscars. Daniel Day-Lewis also won for his role as the title character in “Lincoln.” It was another usurprising win for the actor who is probably the surest thing to win an Oscar this year.
The category that I consider still up in the air is Best Actress, but the SAG certainly gives Jennifer Lawrence the upper hand, as she took home the statue along with a very eloquent speech from the young actress.
And though “Argo” was the winner for Best Cast, I’m still not convinced if it is the frontrunner.
Only time will tell.
But in the meantime, watch the finale of “30 Rock” on Thursday. It’ll be worth your time.
