The Urbana City Council passed several ordinances adjusting the annual budget and appointed two new members to city commissions during its regular Monday meeting.
One ordinance approved unanimously by council members combined funds to support three major construction projects: a multipath connecting Lanore Street and Fairlawn Drive, a street lighting project in King Park and the demolition of Urbana Townhomes.
Alderman Diane Marlin, Ward 7, said these three projects are very important to the neighborhoods and thanked the council staff for working to make the projects happen.
Alderman Dennis Roberts, Ward 5, said he also appreciated the feedback from commissions who worked on the Urbana Townhomes ordinance.
“The Lierman Avenue neighborhood really appreciates council’s support in assisting the demolition of the Urbana Townhomes through its funding,” he said. “We hope to see new and improved things happening in that neighborhood.”

After concerns were expressed from residents of the neighborhood, the city acquired the homes that were an attraction for crime and agreed to fund their demolition.
During the meeting, Mayor Laurel Prussing also appointed Amelia Neptune to the Sustainability Advisory Commission and Thomas Grimes to the Neighborhood Safety Task Force.
