University Police are searching for a suspect in connection to a case of arson near the University’s Oak Street Library Facility.
The Champaign Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire in the south parking lot of the facility at approximately 9 p.m. on Feb. 7. The cause of the fire was initially undetermined, but a video was located during a follow-up investigation showing somebody setting the dumpster on fire.
The offender was seen parking his vehicle at the Sailfin Pet Store, 720 S. Neil St., prior to setting the fire.
The offender is described as a white male with a large build, approximately 35-45 years old, with thinning dark hair that appeared to be trimmed around the sides. He was seen wearing a gray zip-up hooded sweatshirt with dark jeans and black high top boots.
