The Illinois Student Senate is in the process of selecting new students to serve on campus committees.
Nominations were made by the senate’s executive board to the Student Fee Advisory and the Student Sustainability committees at its meeting Sunday. These nominations will be discussed at the ISS meeting Wednesday.
“We go through the process of nominating a whole bunch of students for various different important committees on campus and the Vice Chancellor confirms them,” said Jim Maskeri, senator and senior in LAS.
Committee members are voted in by the student senators, and ultimately, resolutions must come out of committees before being voted on during general meetings.
Christopher Dayton, senator and senior in LAS, explained the need for these executive orders.

“We need a minimum number of people in those (committee) meetings, so it’s necessary for us to appoint these new members real quick to ensure that we can get resolutions that are beneficial to the community,” Dayton said. “How? And so we have to add new members.”
These two executive orders are amending the nomination order that was passed last week. Maskeri said the nominations for the SFAC and the Student Sustainability Committee would be accomplished through these executive orders.
Shao Guo, vice president-internal, laid out how the process of filling the committee vacancies will work.
“For the vacancy, what I plan on doing is continuing the campus committee application process and having people apply,” Guo said. “I would like this to be a continuous rolling process so that we can fill vacancies for each different campus committee. Campus committees are incredibly important. They have great influence because you get to work with faculty, so it’s important that we get the best students.”
Applications for the student senate campus committees are currently available and can be found on the ISS website.
