Three Illinois men’s basketball players decided Friday to transfer and have been given their releases by the University after completion of the spring semester.
Sophomores Mike Shaw and Ibby Djimde and redshirt freshman Devin Langford will transfer and have been granted permission to contact other schools.
“Mike, Ibby and Devin are outstanding young men who have always represented the University of Illinois in a first-class manner,” Illinois head coach John Groce said in a press release. “We will help them in any way we can during this process to find the best fit, so that they are able to achieve their goals on the basketball court and in the classroom.”
The transfer news is not altogether surprising, as Groce has spent ample time on the recruiting trail, even during the season. The exodus opens three additional scholarship spots heading into the 2013-2014 season.
