After more than nine months of negotiations, Service Employee International Union Local 73 members voted Thursday and will vote Friday on a four-year proposal, which negotiators from the union and from the University tentatively agreed upon on Wednesday.
The Union went on strike from March 12 to March 14 instead of accepting the University’s prior proposal. In March, SEIU chief negotiator Ricky Baldwin said members voted against it primarily because the proposed wage increases were too low.
In the current proposal, there is a wage increase for all four years.
The union’s negotiators recommended the members vote yes. If there is another no vote, the union will initiate its second strike in four weeks.
The polls close Friday night at 6 p.m., and results will be released at 6:30 p.m.
