A robbery was reported in the 200 block of East Peabody Drive Saturday morning, according to a crime alert by University Police.
According to the report, a male walking near Hopkins and Forbes halls around 2:40 a.m. was approached by a group of subjects who battered him. The male’s phone was taken during the incident. He said the main offender was a black male wearing a white, V-neck shirt with a long silver necklace/chain that hung down to his stomach area. He believes the suspects entered a dark-colored, four-door vehicle and left north on First Street from the area of Stadium Drive.
UIPD has a video of possible offenders in this case, but do not know at this time whether the subjects in the video are related to any of these incidents. The subjects are persons of interest and UIPD would like to identify and speak to them.
Two similar incidents were reported to the Urbana and Champaign police departments during the early morning hours of Saturday.
A male was walking in the 400 block of South Busey Avenue in Urbana around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he was approached by a group of subjects who battered him for no apparent reason. A witness in the area said the offenders were a group of four black males and one white male.

Around 3 a.m. Saturday, two individuals were battered by a group of offenders in the 50 block of East Chalmers Street in Champaign. The offenders in this incident were described as two black males, one white male and one Hispanic male, all between 18 and 22 years old. The offenders were said to be in a silver, four-door vehicle.
UIPD is working to the identify and apprehend the offenders in the Peabody Drive incident and is working with the Urbana and Champaign police departments regarding their cases.
