An Urbana man was arrested early Sunday morning on the charge of attempted sexual assault at Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory Drive.

Gregory Hayes, 32, was arrested and taken to the Champaign County Jail around 4:50 a.m. Sunday after he attempted to sexually assault a female entering the residence hall, according to Captain Roy Acree of the University Police Department.

He said Hayes observed the female walking and followed her to the hall. As the female swiped her keycard and entered the building, Hayes pulled her back outside and the female began screaming.

A male resident of Allen Hall who had a window open heard the screaming came downstairs, which scared Hayes away. The male student called the police.

Hayes was located using video footage from an Allen Hall security camera.
