More than $1.16 million in capital investments will be used in a construction project on the University’s Education Building, Gov. Pat Quinn announced Thursday.
In addition to the state funding, the University has contributed $261, 488 toward the project, according to a press release. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.
Some exterior changes that will be made to the Education Building include replacing and removing the plaza deck membrane, gutters, downspouts and damaged soffit on the east side of the building and reconstructing planting beds on the east side.
Changes also include replacing the west accessible building entrance doors, installing new ceilings and energy efficient light fixtures in areas of the ground floor, wall painting, ground floor classroom flooring replacement, interior digital sign installation and fire alarm system enhancement.
“University buildings are important parts of our infrastructure and need to be maintained for public safety,” Quinn said in a press release. “This project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”
