The Champaign City Council voted Tuesday at a study session to postpone voting on a resolution that would a change order to the city’s contract with Western Utility Contractors Inc. for construction in the Urbana Champaign Big Broadband construction and installation project. The council will vote on the resolution at its May 14 meeting.
Karen Foster, council member at-large, said she moved to postpone voting on the resolution because of new information she received on Monday that raised financial questions regarding the contract.
The change order, which would be the second to the city’s contract with Western Utility Contractors Inc., would change the original scope of work and authorize payment for the added work completed by the company, according to the resolution. If the change order is approved, the company would complete the installation of fibers for 450 pending UC2B subscribers.
The change order would cost more than $1.6 million if approved. The city’s original contract was projected to cost around $9.3 million.
