After four and a half years of business, Chick-fil-A, located in the Illini Union Food Court, will be closing this Friday.
With Chick-fil-A’s contract expiring Friday, the Illini Union management decided that it would be best to not further the contract because the restaurant was not on students’ top-five vending choices in a survey conducted last year, said Megan Laz, media communications specialist at the Illini Union.
Laz said the intention is to replace Chick-fil-A with a restaurant that was among the top-five student choice. The replacement has not been officially announced yet.
“We felt it was important to solicit feedback from our students and select food vendors that best meet their preferences,” Scott McCartney associate director of retail operations at the Illini Union said in the release.
More information is said to be released after the new vendor is announced.
