The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force has apprehended Champaign residents Qwantrell L. Ayres and Kevin I. Akins in connection with a shooting on the 1100 block of Mimosa Drive last Friday. The two were staying at a hotel in Indianapolis, Ind. where they were arrested on suspicion of aggravated discharge of a firearm. The bond for their release was set at $1 million for each.
The incident in which Ayres and Akins were involved was the first of a string of five shootings in four days in Champaign, which left six people injured, although none are believed to be in a life-threatening condition.
Ayres and Akins are the fourth and fifth suspects that have been arrested in the past six days in connection with gun-related violence.
