At this year’s Tastes of the World Culinary Conference, University Housing brought home honors and received awards for the UI Dining mobile app. The conference took place from June 16-21 at the University of Massachusetts.
According to a University Housing press release, the team — composed of University chefs Joshua Cox, Megan Bugg, SooHwa Yu and Chris Szymenski — brought home silver medals. The team was required to make a three-course meal that corresponded to the theme of “Flavor, Culture, Healthfulness: The Future of College Dining Menus,” which it says challenged chefs to work ethnic flavors into healthy cooking.
University Housing also brought home two awards for their UI Dining mobile application, including gold from Hermes Creative Awards and silver from CASE Circle of Excellence Awards for “excellence in the creation of communication and marketing resources.”
The mobile application is available on both iPhone and Android and was developed by both University Housing and Administrative Information Technology Services, the University’s technology service. It features information on locations and hours of University dining halls, nutrition information and allergen and food trait information of menu item. Students can also log into the application to view meal plan balances.
