WAUKEGAN, Ill. — A trial is underway for former University of Illinois basketball player Jereme Richmond, who’s accused of harassing a witness.
According to The (Waukegan) News Sun, jury selection began Monday in Waukegan.
The 21-year-old is charged with threatening a probation officer from an earlier case. He is accused of telling the officer during a meeting to “be real safe” and making a hand gesture at her as if he were firing a gun. If convicted, Richmond faces three to seven years in prison.
Richmond was sentenced to 18 months of probation in 2012 after pleading guilty to unlawful use of a weapon.
Richmond was Illinois’ top high school player his senior year in Waukegan and played one season at Illinois. He entered the NBA draft but wasn’t selected.
