The NCAA is suspending an Illini men’s basketball assistant coach for misconduct during the NCAA tournament this past March.
In a press release Friday, the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee announced a public reprimand and a two-game suspension for NCAA tournament games for Jamall Walker.
The committee says Walker made inappropriate contact with an official and verbally confronted officials and a police officer after the Illini’s 63-59 third-round loss to Miami (Fla.) on March 24.
Walker will be suspended the next time the Illini — or the school he’s representing — compete in the NCAA tournament.
Per NCAA rules, misconduct is defined as “any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct, unprofessional behavior or breach of law, occurring from the time the championship field is announced through the end of the championship that discredits the event or intercollegiate athletics.”
