The Champaign Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place around 9 a.m. at Taco Bell, 1910 W. Springfield Ave.
According to a press release from the Champaign Police, a man approached an employee who arrived at the drive-through window of the business to pick up the company’s bank deposit bag. An armed man approached the employee and demanded money, then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of currency.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect running toward a building located in the 500 block of Crescent Drive, according to the release.
Police searched the apartment building and found that the door of a residence had been forced open. The suspect, a 21-year-old male, was found in the shower of that residence. He was taken into custody and arrested for armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
