The persistent rain has not only been a nuisance, but it
also managed to crush the hype surrounding Smash Mouth’s scheduled performance
in downtown Champaign on Saturday. The band was scheduled to headline the
Champaign Music Festival, but the wet weather (not surprisingly) rained out the
festivities, leading to a cancellation. Guess the all-stars couldn’t “get the
show on.”

Malala Yousafzai has accomplished more in 18 years than most
people will accomplish in a lifetime. The Nobel Peace Prize-winner and advocate
for women’s rights celebrated her 18th birthday Sunday. A reflection of her
selfless nature, Yousafzai spent her birthday giving back by opening the Malala
Yousafzai All-Girls School for refugees in Syria. We can’t help but admire her outlook that there’s more to birthdays than cake a gifts.
