Illinois Sheriffs’ Association warns against phone scams

The Illinois Sheriff’s office said scam telephone calls have been made to people where telemarketers are posing as the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association and asking for money.
The Illinois Sheriff’s office sent a press release saying that “the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association never solicits by phone but does conduct a direct mail campaign throughout the state of Illinois endorsed by the individual Sheriffs across Illinois.”
They went on to say that offers that seem too good to be true most likely are. The release said that when called, a person has the right to ask for the name and address of the organization, the name of the firm and the percentage that is given to the firm.
If called, The Illinois Sheriff’s Association that one not give money to these people, and report the call to the local sheriff’s department.
