The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for April 24: U.S. passes 50,000 virus deaths

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced three more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Friday, bringing the countywide total to 103 cases.

Of the 103 cases, 17 are active, 81 have recovered and five have died. Six people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Less than 5% of Champaign County’s 2,279 tests have proven positive. County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.

A local mask drive for essential business employees is scheduled for Tuesday from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. in the backlot of WCIA 3 News at 509 S. Neil St. in Champaign. Instructions for drop-off can be found on their website.
