Winona Avenue anticipates debut album release, future tours
June 16, 2021
Hailing from Indianapolis, brothers Daniel and David Deputy make up the pop-rock band Winona Avenue. Listening to this album will take fans right back to their emo days of eighth grade. Think All-American Rejects, Boys Like Girls, 5 Seconds of Summer and The Maine but modernized. Those classic early 2000s electric guitar strums and loud vocals mixed with the current popular pop-rock music styles.
Winona Avenue’s debut album comes out June 25 and is sure to impress. Some tracks the band is most excited to release include “December Night,” “Masterpiece” and “Future Me.”
“December Night” has iconic heartbreaking lyrics like: “I was feeling so alone. I was tired of being left out in the dark,” which will have fans easily relating to each track. The slow drumming and strumming of “Masterpiece” make the track more of an emotional ballad than an upbeat pop hit. “Future Me” has familiar electric guitar strums that make listeners feel as though they’ve heard the song before.
The band’s name, Winona Avenue, is inspired by their childhood street – Winona Drive. Drummer David Deputy said the band’s name can be thought of as a “route that is traveled throughout a lifetime.”
“The decisions you make, the way in which you deal with circumstances and who you choose to follow can determine where you will go,” he said.

Vocalist and guitarist Daniel explained, “Even if you feel like you are at the end of the road or that you have nowhere left to turn, we believe in the opportunity to start over and begin again.”
The rock-sounding violin and vocal echoes in “Alive in You” make this unique track an easy favorite. “Great Escape” highlights the band’s lyric-writing abilities, which has vocalist Daniel singing about how he needs to make a “great escape.” The track “Only One Thing” aims to inspire fans to appreciate the things they have. The very last track to be released on this album, “Day of Our Lives,” is the ultimate pop-rock-punk song that perfectly captures Winona Avenue’s gratitude for every experience and other many things to look forward to.
Winona Avenue is not afraid to sing about their true feelings, no matter how emotional and dark some of their lyrics may be. The catchy drumming and impressive songwriting shine throughout their album, leaving listeners wishing they were at a Winona Avenue live show. Daniel Deputy said, “I believe in building others up instead of tearing others down, and music is a tool that can serve this purpose.”
The bands’ music is influenced by a perfect mixture of 1980s power pop, early 2000s pop-punk and 2010s pop-rock. The brothers said this release means a lot to them.
“We’ve been releasing songs from this album for the last couple of years, so we’re looking forward to sharing the entire album with our fans,” Daniel said. “We hope the album will inspire and encourage people to make a positive impact in this world.”
Thinking about what the band hopes their next step to be, David said: “After this album release, we hope to hit the road and tour more than ever. We’re excited to perform these songs live and hear our fans sing along.”
Winona Avenue looks forward to continuing along their own musical journey, excited about whatever avenue may come their way.
