Journalism alumnus wins Edward R. Murrow Award

By Daily Illini Staff Report

Illinois journalism alumnus Charlie Meyerson, MS ’78 Media, was recently honored by the Radio Television Digital News Association for his involvement in an audio investigative report on glass desks exploding. Along with former Rivet Radio producers Jonah Meadows and Elizabeth Giadans, Meyerson received a 2016 national Edward Murrow Award in the Small Online News Organizations category.

Meyerson, the vice president of editorial and development at Rivet Radio, hosted the seven-minute audio report titled Our Glass Desk Exploded. Yours Could, Too, which was created after a colleague’s glass desk suddenly exploded into pieces at the company’s Chicago offices. Meyerson has won dozens of similar awards since he began his broadcasting career at Illini Media’s WPGU-FM in 1973.

Other winners of 2016 Edward R. Murrow online reporting awards include The New York Times, Yahoo! and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
