International Student Volunteers (ISV), a California-based non-profit organization that oversees volunteer projects around the world, will be hosting informational meetings on Oct. 6 for interested students.

The meetings will be every hour on the hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 215 of the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St. in Urbana.

University students can choose from the following programs:

* A standard Four-Week Volunteer and Adventure Program: two-week volunteer project followed by a two-week adventure tour in the same host country

* A Two-Week Volunteer Program: two-week volunteer project only, without an adventure tour

* An Extended Program: standard four-Week Volunteer and Adventure Program plus additional two-week volunteer projects or adventure tours

* A Group Trip: consists of 10 or more volunteers who are already part of a group, such as a service club, special interest club or a skilled group. The length of the trip and the number of volunteer projects and adventure tours may be customized based on the needs of the group

Volunteer projects are divided into four categories: wildlife conservation, community development, children’s programs and environmental management.

Past students have worked in sea turtle and elephant rescue centers, taught health education and English to children, built houses for refugees and researched whales and rain forest regeneration.

Students and volunteers can choose from destinations in Australia, Costa Rica, South Africa, Thailand, the Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Ecuador and Eastern Europe.

ISV has been coordinating programs for 30 years. Academic credit is available on most campuses.
